First there is a “flap” that covers the tube that enters your lungs, this keeps food and water out of your lungs for the most part, of course if you eat of drink too fast you don’t have enough time to cover the tube and food or drink can “go down the wrong tube.” As for down the tube into your stomach, everything goes down, including air. That is one of the reason we burp, we swallow air. once it’s in the stomach it’s all processed the same way.
