2007 Camry tire pressure sensors: swap between 16″ steel to 16″ alloy?
Will the valve stems and tire pressure sensors from a 2007 Camry LE 16″ steel wheel transfer over to a 2007 Camry 16″ alloy wheel (as found on the Hybrid or XLE)?
If the sensors swap over from steel wheels to alloy rims, and the same tires are used, do the sensors need to be re-calibrated?
There are 3 common types of tire pressure sensors.
1 type is used in conjuction with the valve stem.
1 type is mounted by steal strap 180* from valve stem. (Ford)
1 type is done through wheel speed sensors.
Any one of these is able to be transfered from wheel to wheel, provided the wheel is the same size.
Typically, you will only need to re-calibrate if the tire goes flat while driving. On some newer cars, you need to re-calibrate when you rotate tires.
When doing the swap, just put the new rim and tire where the old rim and tire went. This will limit the possibility of having to re-calibrate the system.
However, despite your efforts, the computer might still recognize something has changed. And you may end up recalibrating the system.
Other than the possibility of having to recalibrate, I do not see any problems arising from this swap.
