Can you get an accurate tempurature reading by….?

My science project requires me to take the temperature of irregular objects like rubber, plastic, painted metal, glass, and a plant. what can i use to take the temperature of them???
i was thinking i could use one of those infrared thermometers, but theyre way too expensive….
can i get an accurate reading by cutting it in half then sticking the thermometer inside the slit i cut??
or can i use those thermometers you use when you get sick that you rub across your forehead??

Taking reading after cutting a substance is not permitted,You have to find a way to measure it.(Non destructive method)
Body thermometers have limited range. So they can not be used.
You can use some paste like thing to stick the thermom eter on the surface wait for few minutes then take reading.
I have seen instrument technicians using some rubbber like compound called Putty(?)
